Visual artist Tigran Amiryan reached agreements with a host organization and the representatives of the Armenian diaspora in Cyprus. Kimonos Center has an art residence where he could use a studio to prepare the product, and a gallery area. Together with the Kimonos team, he created postcards from the “Cyprus archive” series using both laser printing and silk printing. Members of the center have wide work experience with this type of art. The final presentation was a good reason to establish inter-institutional relations and present his art project. His agreement with the Armenian diaspora in Cyprus helped to make field research more effective. His work plan (meetings with the host organization, field research in different cities of Cyprus, the final presentation) was clearly mentioned in the invitation letters of his application. On this trip, he simultaneously established institutional ties, created a new art-product, organized a public presentation of the project and planned its further development in his homeland.
The final product will be a narrative and visual project published as both an electronic and printed (limited edition) pocket book. The book will include my essay “Fragile Roots. Postcards from The Land of Care” about the places of memory of the Armenian diaspora and the forms of memory of this ethnic minority on the island (memory and architecture, memory and urban space, memory and language, memory and photography). The publication will certainly give i-Portunus (logo and words of gratitude) as the main supporting organization for the project.
