Thea Soti contacted the Hungarian Cultural Institute of Brussels, the Balassi Institute to host a residency to create an installative, space-specific performance. The institute itself is dedicated to encouraging cultural exchange and dialogue between Belgian artists and international guests. Soti was convinced they would be able to help her through their networks to get in contact with the local contemporary scene. In August Soti participated in the Summer School of PARTS to take movement classes and to get in contact with local artists. In September she worked in the Institute of Balassi to develop her site-specific performance with a local artist, Klaas Devos. “DontMissMyselfAnymore” was presented at the end of the residency period.
This resulted in a very fruitful month: got further education and training in movement and dance, improvisation, got to know the contemporary dance communities in Brussels and created a solo piece that was mostly based on space, movement and performance. I’ve never expected that everything would work out so well.
