Terra Nullius

Terra Nullius is a music theater for two performers, amplified Lira Calabrese, live electronics, synthetic voices, fixed-media (audio and video). Written and performed by Astra Irene Susi and Edoardo Micheli.
This summer Astra with her partner brought the project to a conclusion and presented it to the public in two final events after an intense phase of rehearsals and work on stage, and refining the music and the video parts.

It is a virtual journey whose (unattainable) goal is to heal the painful loss of something that cannot be restored, in this case through the sound of a very ancient stringed instrument that was once common throughout the Mediterranean. However, this original state (a world not yet corrupted by the selfishness of the market and where people live in contact with nature) is idealized and associated with values and structures such as patriarchy and heteronormativity. In the end, the crack, the disorientation, the incurable nostalgia remains. Synthetic voices generated by artificial intelligence transform the landscape into an alienating dystopia. Or in the desired utopia after all?
