Renata Poljak

Renata Poljak’s project was hosted by Art Festival Proyector which is directed by Mario Gutiérrez. Mario and Renata met in Barcelona in November 2018 during the video festival LOOP, where Mario proposed her to work with them for their next PROYECTOR edition. Renata applied with the project ‘Yet Another Departure’, a three-channel video installation. In her work she often uses documentary and archival materials. Drawing on current migrants and refugees stories, the situations repeating throughout the history, ‘Yet Another Departure’ points to the human condition as a fragile and susceptible to political, economic and social changes. Reexamining the historic and superficial remoteness of the sea, the piece does not rely on a completely fixed narrative but rather unfolds in shifting story that pays close attention to the articulation of space with room for contemplation. PROYECTOR is the most important festival of visual art, with emphasis on video, in Spain. Besides exhibitions, PROYECTOR organizes professional meetings and workshops with students and the local community.

As I showed my 3 channel video installation in a group show that opened the video festival PROYECTOR, many people came to the opening at El Instante Fundacion in Madrid. On the opening night a lot of visitors communicated with me about the work, and this continued in the following days, during the whole festival. I hope some new things will happen in the future after these meetings.
