This year, pianist and singer Marieke Berthou toured the Islands of West Ireland and the Scottish Hebrides by sail with a piano onboard to collect traditional sea songs and sea shanties that are part of Scottish and Irish cultures.
For the “Sail us a song” project, Marieke spent several days on each Island to encounter the local musicians and artists, learn and record the songs and finally perform with them for a collaboration concert onboard. A special album with all the songs collected will be launched in Autumn 2021.
The cooperation with local partners created a link with other cultural partners and organizations in the Hebrides area. Moreover, the work with local musicians has been very appreciated and ended in the creation of some beautiful artistic collaborations. Also, traveling slowly and in a “green” way makes so much sense nowadays, and the feedback of both partners and audiences is that they really appreciate the way this cultural project travels from place to place
