Visual artist Johannes Mundinger participated in the Street Art Residencies program of Elektrika association from Pancevo (Serbia). The project is curated and coordinated by Vladimir Palibrk in collaboration with Institut Français and Novi Sad Capital of Culture 2021 foundation. The aim of this residency was to:
- get networked with local scenes in Novi Sad and Pancevo /artists and galleries
- paint two murals: one in Novi Sad and one in Pancevo
- relate to the special focus of the program this year: the crossover between street art and traditional ethnic crafts of the multi-ethnic region of Vojvodina/north Serbia
Elektrika association organised meetings with local studios and initiatives who work in pottery, textile, woodcut, carpet knitting, embroidery etc, to estimate how artists can crossover the design made by recognized street artists with crafts/objects made in those studios. The longer term aim was to produce a number of objects for a future exhibition.
Johannes Mundinger spent 15 days in Novi Sad and Pancevo.
Other than painting in a studio, painting in public space is somehow a performance and leads to a lot of conversations with passers-by. Talking about interpretations and different perspectives, learning about the history of the neighbourhood and exchange about culture(s).
