“Improvised Events” is an international performing project initiated by Museum of Contemporary Arts in Zagreb in collaboration with MAPA NGO and Rijeka2020. Four female artists in visual, dance and sound performative practices were invited to collaborate through two production residencies in Zagreb and Goli Otok, master classes, improvisation sessions and three public performances. Jasna Jovicevic is a sound / body movement performer and was one of the four invited artists, together with visual conceptual artist Andreja Kuluncic, dancer Zrinka Uzbinec and sound artist Annette Giesriegl. Together they explored the possibility of dialogue and the exchange of ideas through improvisation, in order to achieve interaction in the broad range of their own areas. The objective was to achieve a collective method that comes into being at the intersection of space, movement and audio articulation within the spatial, semantic and political potentials of a museum of contemporary art.
As programmed, I completed the residency, open rehearsals, two performances in the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Zagreb, two workshops and a short residency on Goli Otok. Beyond that, in the spirit of successful workshop with the Zagreb musicians, we organised an Improv Night, a concert with artists from our collective in collaboration with local musicians in the club Mesnicka (Zagreb). Also, what was not planned during the residency time, I offered a children creative workshop. Thirty children joined me in the public library of Zagreb, in organization of Prozor Galery, and we made creative music instruments and learned new music related to ecology.
