Georges Gagneré aimed to introduce the AvatarStaging digital platform for Ukrainian audiences. The digital platform is about directing avatars in mixed reality theatrical performances. Gagneré applied to give masterclasses in Kiev and Kharkiv and to show the short performance The Shadow, after the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, as an artistic illustration. Gagneré wanted to bring the modern technologies to small theatres, demonstrate the creative potential of using avatars and virtuality in theatre, and grow a community of reflection around these issues. Moreover, he hoped to foster bridges between Ukrainian and French artists and theater companies.
Prior to applying Gagneré was in contact with Theatre Na Zhukah and the producer Ternovyi Dmytro to host this project. Theater Na Zhukah builds artistic bridges in performing arts between Ukraine and Europe, and is interested in giving possibilities to Ukrainian people to share creative tools and issues around new technologies dedicated to theater.
We met students and professionnals about our project, but we didn’t expect such a big audience with the artistic performance that was given with our masterclasses.
