Cosmin Manolescu

“Gabriela Tudor” Residency programme is a new action launched by Cosmin Manolescu together with Gabriela Tudor Foundation aiming to support mobility and artistic creation in the field of dance and contemporary art. Each year two residencies for four to six artists will be organised in Romania and Portugal.

Cosmin Manolescu used the mobility support to visit Portugal as the manager and artistic coach of the programme in order to accompany and implement the pilot-residency scheme in Lisbon, and to visit Agueda city and have discussions with curator Paulina Almeida regarding a new Gabriela Tudor residence for 2020. In connection with this trip, he planned to lead a 10-day retreat under his ongoing artistic action Dance-Wanderer. It was open for 10 participants (performers and dance amateurs) from Romania and Portugal. Finally, he also used the trip to discuss with potential Portuguese partners the possibility to build up and submit a new European collaboration project in the field of dance to the Creative Europe.

The residence Gabriela Tudor took place according to the initial plan. The two Romanian artists Cristina Lilienfeld (choreographer) and Razvan Tupa (poet) developed an artistic research “Capilar”, a new dance project at the intersection of dance and poetry. The new project will be finished and premiered in Spring 2021 in Bucharest.

Orsolya Balint, who was one of the participants to the Dans-Wanderer workshop wrote shortly after her return to Romania: “It was a multidimensional drift for me, carrying me to some wonderful unknown places – from noisy streets, through placid beaches, and down to the depths of my Self. I extended my awareness of nature and my own body, due to new ways of connecting and binding with them. Dancing in public spaces, dissolved some barriers in my attitude towards shyness in front of strangers. It was a nicely organized retreat, fusing work with recreation – flavored with emotional flights. Thank you for this enriching experience”.
