Almudena Ramírez Pantanella
The International Residency for Emerging Playwrights is an internationally acclaimed programme that is designed to provide emerging playwrights with the opportunity to develop a full-length contemporary play with the artistic team of the Royal Court Theatre, the UK’s leading theatre for new writing. The Residency heralds the start of a long-term relationship between invited artists and the theatre. They invited Almudena Ramírez Pantanella and committed to reading and developing any further drafts of her play, as well as future work.
The objectives of this residency:
- To build relationships between the Royal Court and the next major generation of European playwrights that will yield work for UK stages;
- To form long lasting peer relationships between playwrights from different theatre cultures;
- To provide participating artists with a bespoke opportunity to interrogate their practice;
- To exchange ideas and practice between participating playwrights, Royal Court artistic staff and writers based in the UK.
By travelling to London I was able to fully participate in the International Residency at the Royal Court Theatre. I spent three weeks attending sessions with playwrights, directors and professionals from the UK theatre world, as well as getting to know and exchanging ideas with the other 8 European playwrights.
