General Information

i-Portunus is a scheme funded by the European Commission that supports the mobility of artists, creators and cultural professionals, implemented by consortia of cultural organisations. It funds short-term mobilities for individuals to go abroad or for hosts to attract international talent.

i-Portunus’ main objective is to connect international artists, creators and cultural professionals and to support international collaborations among all countries participating in the Creative Europe Programme. It’s the “Erasmus” of the culture world.

Hosts or Individuals

Currently, i-Portunus is implemented by two pilot projects, managed by two consortia of cultural organisations.

  • i-Portunus Houses headed by the European Cultural Foundation, funds cultural mobility via two Calls for Applications for hosts.
  • Goethe Institute, launched five Calls for Applications in the cultural sectors of Music, Literary Translation, Architecture and Cultural Heritage and funds mobility for individuals.

The results of these two projects, in addition to the first project implemented in 2019, will be reviewed by the European Commission in designing the final form of i-Portunus and its funding parameters, as a permanent action of the Creative Europe programme 2021-2027.  The first projects in the new programme are planned to start in 2022.

The results of the selected applicants for the following schemes have been published:

Open Call – i-Portunus Houses Round 2
Open Call – i-Portunus Houses Round 1

Open Call – music 1
Open Call – literary translation
Open Call – architecture
Open Call – music 2

i-Portunus Stories
Through this residency opportunity, we bring together experienced artists in conversation, in physical practice and in creation to map the terrain of wise dancing. We aim to generate wisdom that can be documented and shared more widely with a view to affirming dance as a life-long activity with transformative potential for all. It is a project that builds on the expertise of professional artists, shared initially with fellow professionals and ultimately with a general population interested in how to dance through life more wisely.

Eastern Bloc is a catwalk concert that addresses the communist past of Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic through an international co-production that draws on the music and visuals that defined the above-mentioned era in each of these countries. This is why the Budapest-based Soharóza choir invites artists (costume designers, singers, musicians, and a choreographer) from the three other Visegrad countries to co-create a project on our collective past under the Soviet regime.
