General Information

i-Portunus is a demand-driven mobility scheme that provides financial support and allows direct applications in cultural fields (except for the audio-visual sectors) via a straightforward and flexible process, from either:

Hosts or Individuals

Currently, i-Portunus is implemented by two pilot projects, managed by two consortia of cultural organisations.

  • One project, headed by the Goethe Institute, has already launched five Calls for Applications in the cultural sectors of Music, Literary Translation, Architecture and Cultural Heritage and funds mobility for individuals.
  • A second project, headed by the European Cultural Foundation, will be funding cultural mobility via two Calls for Applications for hosts, called i-Portunus Houses.

The results of these two projects, in addition to the first project implemented in 2019, will be reviewed by the European Commission in designing the final form of i-Portunus and its funding parameters, as a permanent action of the Creative Europe programme 2021-2027.  The first projects in the new programme are planned to start in 2022.

i-Portunus Stories
We exceeded our expectations regarding collaborations with people who are not from the art world. We have gathered a lot of different kinds of materials (video, photo, objects) which we will use for further activities of the project “Y?”. Even though our mobility supported by i-Portunus finished in England, the project “Y?” continues with activities in America, and later again in Europe. We expect to make more contacts, activities, project presentations and interventions in the public space. We will also present our project in Hekler, New York. After New York comes the final phase of the project – production of an exhibition and of an art/documentary film. We were also able to widen our professional networks and got to know new spaces for future collaboration.

As programmed, I completed the residency, open rehearsals, two performances in the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Zagreb, two workshops and a short residency on Goli Otok. Beyond that, in the spirit of successful workshop with the Zagreb musicians, we organised an Improv Night, a concert with artists from our collective in collaboration with local musicians in the club Mesnicka (Zagreb). Also, what was not planned during the residency time, I offered a children creative workshop. Thirty children joined me in the public library of Zagreb, in organization of Prozor Galery, and we made creative music instruments and learned new music related to ecology.

My esthetic as a composer is to avoid at all cost that the music becomes a soundscape. It has to be a part of the dramaturgy and make sense at different scales. From the synchronization of the music with the movements of the dancers to the formal building of time through the piece. Since I am playing live and therefore become a performer as well, it’s necessary that I can interact with the dancers and the choreographer, to create the dramaturgy all together as a team.
